Custom Functional Orthotics

Your feet are the foundation of your body. When they are out of alignment, it doesn’t just hurt your feet, it impacts your knees, hips, and back. At GoodWill Chiropractic we provide state-of-the-art GaitScan™ technology and custom-made orthotics designed specifically for your unique biomechanics.

Is Your Pain Starting from the Ground Up?

Many common aches and pains are actually “referred pain” caused by underlying biomechanical faults in your feet. If you suffer from any of the following, your gait (the way you walk) might be the culprit:

  • Foot & Heel Pain: Plantar fasciitis, arch pain, or bunions.

  • Leg & Knee Pain: Shin splints, “runner’s knee,” or joint grinding.

  • Hip & Back Pain: Lower back stiffness, hip bursitis, or even scoliosis.

  • General Fatigue: Feeling tired or “heavy-legged” after standing or walking.

Not All Orthotics are Created Equal

Unlike “off-the-shelf” inserts found in pharmacies, our custom functional orthotics are medical-grade devices engineered to re-balance your feet.

  • Precision Technology: We use GaitScan™, an innovative pressure-mapping system that captures 2D and 3D data of your foot in motion.

  • Total Body Alignment: By optimising the position of your feet, we reduce the stress on your muscles, tendons, and joints, allowing your body to heal from the bottom up.

  • Lifestyle Versatility: Our orthotics are manufactured in Canada and can be designed to fit virtually any shoe, from athletic sneakers and work boots to slim-profile dress shoes.

Your 3-Step Journey to Better Alignment

The Biomechanical Assessment

We begin with a comprehensive physical examination of your posture, foot function, and leg length. We then perform a GaitScan™ analysis, where you walk across a dynamic pressure plate to see exactly how your weight is distributed, with a unique analysis for each foot.

Personalised Prescription

We don’t just take a “snapshot” of your foot. We analyse the data to identify imbalances. This information is sent to the specialised laboratory in Canada, where your orthotics are crafted using high-quality, durable materials like carbon fibre or specialised foams.

Orthotics Fitting & Follow-Up

In approximately 3 weeks, you’ll return for a “dispensing visit.” We ensure the orthotics fit your footwear perfectly and provide you with a personalised adaptation plan to ensure a comfortable transition. You can then go about your life with a newly improved gait.

FAQ

Do I really need custom orthotics if I don’t have foot pain?

Yes. Many patients have “silent” foot dysfunctions that don’t cause foot pain but lead to chronic knee, hip, or lower back issues. Identifying these early can prevent long-term joint degeneration.

How long do custom orthotics last?

Because they are made from high-quality, clinical-grade materials, they typically last between 2 to 5 years, depending on your activity level and the type of orthotic.

Will I need to buy all new shoes?

Not at all! Modern custom orthotics are much thinner and more versatile than they used to be. We can prescribe different styles (Sport, Dress, or Casual) to fit into your existing wardrobe.

How long does it take to get used to them?

Most people adapt within 1–2 weeks. We recommend a “break-in” period where you wear them for a few hours a day, gradually increasing the time as your muscles adjust to the new, healthy alignment.

Is the GaitScan assessment painful?

Not at all. It is a non-invasive process that simply involves walking across a specialized mat. It’s quick, easy, and provides fascinating insight into how your body moves.
